I went through my photos today to curate collections of some of my favourite creations so far of the things I’ve made in the past six years. I am in the midst of applying for a couple of juried craft shows for the fall, so here is a post where jurors can see the variety of techniques, materials, and styles within my categories of bags, mittens, and hats (see bottom of post for update since I wrote this post, too). My favourite thing to do in crafting is to create a practical item from upcycled natural fabrics and then bombard it with all sorts of decorative detail. My inspiration comes partly from what you can see on my Pinterest boards, especially the following ones:
Following are five groups of five photos each of my favourite creations within each group. For the fall, I plan to embellish my new creations individually even more than the past ones! Stay tuned, and enjoy the photo feast! Each photo has a descriptive caption.
First: zipped wristlets and makeup bags
Second: tote bags
Third: cross-body bags with adjustable straps
Fourth: mittens from upcycled wool sweaters

I’ll be doing a separate blog post about the following two photo collages, but I am so excited about these that I wanted to share them in this “favourites so far” post! These are ten cushion covers I finished last night for a special project I am volunteering for. They represent the aesthetic I am trying to move more towards when I make bags, hats, and mittens. There’s embroidery, patchwork, crazy quilting, couching, buttons, colour, linen, cotton, silk, gingham, floral, batik, motifs, and applique. All the fabrics except the batiks are from thrift store clothing, sheets, or vintage cotton floral sheets. I’ve been discovering through Instagram that there’s a name for this aesthetic, and it’s boho, bohemian, or colourful boho. I love it!!!
Hope you enjoyed these as much as I did! I’d love to hear from you in the comments.
